Florida

This trip had been postponed from last fall when we were supposed to have visited for our nephew Sherman’s wedding… except the threat of a hurricane scared us off. We were happy to reschedule for a warmer and sunnier time of year, sans hurricanes. The weather couldn’t have been better, mid 70’s and sunny every day.

It was a family-filled weekend. David’s parents were also visiting from Wisconsin and Eric - Heidi’s brother, and Mark - David’s brother both live in the Tampa area with their wives. Ashton had a blast playing on the beach with his cousin Elle. He quickly got the hang of beach living as you can see from the pictures of him sitting in the beach chair reading a magazine and generally playing in the sun. Digging big holes was without doubt the favorite activity of the weekend.

We also took a drive down to Ft. Meyers to visit David’s Uncle Freddie and Aunt Rita. The highlight of that day was Ashton getting a ride in Uncle Freddie’s golf cart. They even saw an alligator in one of the ponds. He loved hamming it up for his cousin Gina and Aunt Elaine. His Grandpa Ray helped to keep him occupied by pulling quarters out of his ears too. I think he could have done that all day long. Too bad Grandpa Ray didn’t let him keep all those quarters. He’d be rich.

We had a nice lunch with Uncle Mark, Aunt Cheryl, Cousin Sherman and Kristina. Had Ashton had more time with cousin Sherman I’m sure they’d be the best of friends. At least they each got a great hug from one another.

Although we departed on Monday we didn’t arrive home until Tuesday due to plane delays out of Tampa. Although I said I’d never say a nice thing about DELTA Airlines, I will praise their pilots who were so friendly to Ashton they even let him sit in the cockpit of our airplane… so much for heightened security after 911!
