We enjoyed a quiet Thanksgiving holiday which included making a fire in the fireplace, visiting a local urban stream where the salmon have returned to spawn. We saw twelve salmon this year.
We also visited Children's hospital where a memorial including Mercer' s name was recently placed. We spent time thanking Mercer for the time he spent with us this past year and the sentiment was returned when we noticed little rainbows that shone down from the heavens and onto our clothes. The little prisms we saw, like Mercer's spirit, brought a fleeting moment of excitement, seemed almost within reach... yet they were unable to be grasped. We symbolicly left them behind at the hospital, only taking with us the memory of their beauty.
Later that afternoon, we enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving feast at the home of our friends, the Rhotens. Miles and Ashton “ice skated” while the turkey finished roasting, and Micah and Emmett played together so nicely.
As the weekend neared, we headed out to the Warborg's cabin near Mount Rainier. It was chilly up near Mount Rainier, but not too cold for Max, Allie, Ashton and Emmett to enjoy a relaxing weekend at the cabin with our good friends the Warborgs. The kids saw a herd of elk, petted and fed the corralled horses, explored a nearby riverbank and then warmed up in the hot tub. Mom and dad almost got whipped at Scrabble but evened up the score during the last turns. We all had a great time just relaxing and spending time together.
Thanks to the Rhotens and Warborgs and for your gracious hospitality!
